Celebrating the life of
John Edward Bogue
September 11, 1951 - August 27, 2024
John was a devoted, loving, and faithful husband, a caring brother and friend. He amazed with his brilliant, analytical mind and quick, clever wit.
John Edward Bogue passed away suddenly at age 72 in Savannah GA on August 27, 2024 from injuries sustained in a motor-vehicle accident. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lukas. Survivors in his family include sisters, Barbara Pieper and family and Catherine Horvath and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Bogue and Cecelia Barch Bogue.
John was also a cat dad to Clarence and Shelburne, and was predeceased by cat buddies Dennett, Tillbury, Rulley, Britzka, and Dickens.
John was born in New York on September 11. The day took on extra meaning in the year of 2001 when he and his wife were living in the Washington, DC area.
John graduated from Middlebury College with a double major in Physics and French. Several years later, he attended Cornell University for an MBA. He then received a Matrise in International Business with distinction from Universite Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.
John’s career with both IBM and Northrop Grumman was stateside, and projects took him to Japan, England, and France.
John was a devoted, loving, and faithful husband, a caring brother and friend. He amazed with his brilliant, analytical mind and quick, clever wit. He had a gift to integrate complex information into easily understood concepts. He invariably displayed due diligence and practical problem solving. John was always ready to provide help and was known for his generous spirit and kindness to family and friends. John especially enjoyed surprising others in thoughtful ways. Throughout, he was invariably honest, upright, persistent, reliable, thoughtful, and sensitive with a thoughtful, quiet, and private demeanor .
John pursued intense fitness training and thrived on challenging himself physically. He enjoyed water sports and boating from his early days spending his summers at the family cottage on Lake George in Bolton Landing, New York, where he persistently availed himself of his parents’ boat. John was an experienced sailor and spent several sailing trips in the Caribbean with family and friends. He had an ongoing interest in woodworking, skillfully designing, creating, and finishing decorative and functional items as well as furniture. For pasttime reading, John favored historical fiction with a science fiction twist. He delighted in challenging number, word, and trivia games. John thoroughly enjoyed travel and cooking, each with meticulous planning and organization.
In John’s own words (from his Middlebury 50th reunion): To sum up where I am: I am not usually a self-reflective person. Been too busy for that. Nor do I look back a lot. So I surprised myself last month as I was reading in what I refer to as the sunroom. It was a sunny day with above average temperatures in the low 70’s. The sunroom overlooks a saltwater/brackish lagoon. I looked up (probably because one of the mullet made a large splash as it jumped out of the water -George Gershwin/ Summertime got that part right) and I unexpectedly thought: You know, I’m content.
